Shield Volcano
The shield volcano is made up of cooled magma and they can be up to 2,000 meters tall and maybe even taller. The shield volcano is a large volcanic structure that has long gentle sloping sides and it is dome like shaped and it also has many vents.Vents are openings in the Earth's crust. This particular volcano structure happens in a hot spot also known as the subduction zone or divergent boundary. The shield volcano doesn't explode but the magma oozes out from the core of volcano and the vents.
Composite Volcano
The composite volcano is the most common volcano and has the largest structure. It has a cone shaped structure with steep and smooth slopes. The volcano is made up of layers of ash, lava and cinder. When the volcano is going to erupt it may spew gently or violently. Most of this type of volcano has a crater at the top with a central vent or a group of vents, where the liquid magma is released from a pool that is below the central vent.
Cinder Cone Volcano
The cinder cone volcano is the simplest type of all three types. It barley rises up to a thousand feet tall and has steep sides. Even though it is the smallest and simplest, it has the most violent eruption. When a cinder cone volcano erupts, the lava blows furiously into the air and breaks up into small pieces called cinders. That is where it got it's name. The cinder cone volcano has one crater and no vents and it is bowl shaped. It is also usually near other volcanoes.
